This rare double strand elephant hair ring is available from my personal collection! A fantastic stacker, this kind of ring is more often seen as a single strand or as a braid but I have not come across very many double strand twist rings. The gold is unmarked but acid tested to be 14k gold.
The larger piece of gold secures the 2 bands together while the smaller piece is movable around the ring and keeps the two strands at the right distance from each other. Elephant hair jewelry was a popular souvenir during the period of British rule in India, and as a result, it was fashionable in the Victorian era. This ring would have been brought back to England towards the end of the 19th Century. Each strand is actually a piece of hair from an elephant (usually collected when they have fallen out or gotten caught on bushes) and then made into a souvenir ring. Fantastic antique condition with no issues.
